On Mindset, Emotional Resilience and Company Culture
Some qualities really can be developed like a muscle — and they completely change the relationship we have with life.
People sometimes ask: what is your mindset, how do you stay this calm? There is no single answer. But over time I noticed something and try to practise it: some qualities really can be developed like a muscle.
Four qualities you can build
| Quality | What it means |
|---|---|
| Self-efficacy | The sense that “I managed it before, I can manage it again” |
| Hope | Belief in the future |
| Optimism | Being able to see what is good even in hard moments |
| Emotional resilience | Staying in flow, and being able to stop and recover when needed |
The last is the hardest, because it requires the most self-awareness.
There is always an option. What matters is being able to see those options without harming anyone and while protecting your own values.
This shapes company culture too
If we want people to come to work not only with their feet but with their hearts, two things help:
- Being able to enjoy and use humour — it softens the environment and creates a safe space
- Being able to witness each other's lives — it builds sincerity and increases empathy
We all have a story, and producing meaning inside those stories nourishes us not only emotionally but biologically. The balance of serotonin, dopamine, endorphins and oxytocin shapes not only individual happiness but the energy we radiate around us.
The 5A matrix: what fuels autonomous teams
That balance is the fuel of agile teams, because autonomous teams rest on a similar structure:
| Component | What it asks |
|---|---|
| Awareness | Do we see what is actually happening? |
| Alternatives | Do we recognize that options exist? |
| Authenticity | Can people be themselves here? |
| Attachment | Is there real commitment to each other and the work? |
| Accountability | Do we own the outcomes? |
Teams that establish this balance are not only happier; they are also more effective, more productive and more human-centred.
Why this connects to product work
The useful part is that this approach has a direct effect in fields like product management. It strengthens empathy, enables a more accurate understanding of people, and directs us toward solving the right problems in technology.
In a period where AI cannot decide which problem is worth solving, that may matter more than any technical skill.

Four: self-efficacy (the sense that you managed it before and can again), hope (belief in the future), optimism (seeing what is good even in hard moments) and emotional resilience (staying in flow and being able to stop and recover). The last is hardest because it requires the most self-awareness.
What is the 5A matrix?
Five components underlying autonomous teams: Awareness, Alternatives, Authenticity, Attachment and Accountability. Teams that establish this balance are not only happier but also more effective, more productive and more human-centred.

Two things help: being able to enjoy and use humour, which softens the environment and creates a safe space; and being able to witness each other's lives, which builds sincerity and increases empathy. Producing meaning inside our stories nourishes us emotionally and biologically.
What does this have to do with product management?
It strengthens empathy and enables a more accurate understanding of people, which directs teams toward solving the right problems in technology. In a period where AI cannot decide which problem is worth solving, that can matter more than any technical skill.
